Hardeman County was created in 1823 and was named in honor of Colonel Thomas Hardeman, veteran of the War of 1812, who served as the first county court clerk. Bolivar is the county seat and it has many antebellum houses still in use that are in the Historical and Cultural district of the town. The county is also home to the National Bird Dog Museum and Field Trial Hall of Fame and the town of Grand Junction holds an annual National Bird Dog Field Trial each spring.
