Washington County was established in 1777 by the North Carolina legislature. Jonesborough, the county seat, is one of Tennessee’s oldest and most historic settlements. The county is home to East Tennessee State University and the Veterans Administration at Mountain Home’s complex that was one of the first National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers.
